Friday Night Playwright Series

On Friday evening November 14, 2008, The ActorsNET of Bucks County inaugurated its “New Play Reading” series. Our goal is to provide a forum for local playwrights to have their works heard before a live audience. Designed to focus on the plays themselves (as opposed to a scene study acting workshop) each script will be read by a group of actors in either “concert” or “staged reading” format, with an open invitation to all who want to simply attend to hear the play read aloud, or participate in a discussion of the work afterwards with the author and cast. For the new play it’s a very important part of the creative process for the playwright to hear the characters come to life and allow for adjustments, rewrites, and fine-tuning. These experimental productions serve as an incubator and laboratory for actors, writers, directors, and producers to practice and explore their craft free from the constraints of production schedules, budgets, criticism and public performance. For those of you interested in submitting your own ideas for a play reading, please see the THE ACTORS’ NET PLAY READING SERIES APPLICATION.
